“Islamic Approaches to Global Issues”
International Symposium
10-11 October 2024—Sinop/Online or in-Person
Organised by
Department of Theology – Sinop University
Cultural imperialism has gained a new dimension on a global scale with the development of technology today. The technological power that reinforces the authoritarian superior language of imperialism carries the risk of evolving towards a uniformizing and hegemonic understanding that could eliminate all diversities on a global scale. Accordingly, our aim in organizing this symposium is to raise awareness about the current and potential risks of the powers that control the technology, while benefiting from the indispensable blessings of technology, science, transportation and communication. It is important to recognize this issue, which constitute a point of mobilization for Muslim consciousness, and to question it from different perspectives. Understanding the cultural imposition resulting from this new situation will be possible by reconsidering the intellectual accumulation of orientalism and colonialism. Such analysis will enable the identification of the limitations of existing perspectives and the emergence of new possibilities. The 1st International Symposium on Islamic Approaches to Global Problems will bring together researchers from various disciplines, especially the field of Theology, to discuss the problem in question. Thus, it is hoped to contribute to the enrichment of Islamic intellectual knowledge and the increase of Islamic consciousness’s sensitivity to global issues.
